Teacher and School Outreach

As a Team, Erin D., Erin C., Pauline and I worked together to contact 50 high schools here in Utah. We divided the work evenly and located the contact information for each school's principal or director. From there, we were able to email the information directly to the schools. These emails were sent out from our individual emails from Nov. 10-17th. Each email included the PowerPoint Presentation on Girl's Lobby (including the Presentation Notes) and a promotional flier about Girl's Lobby's purpose. This information will be passed on to the government, citizenship and history teachers, which will then be distributed to the students in the classes.

This fits in to the the larger project as it allows the Girl's Lobby program to become common-knowledge within the high schools and invites the girl's to participate. Already we have begun to receive responses from the high school directors and principals showing that this part of the process has been completed. Last year, there were 25 participants registered but with this effort, we hope that the number will grow.

Below, please find the email outline and the material attached.

""Hello,

I am emailing you as a representative of Girls Lobby, a Utah nonprofit organization dedicated to educating teenage girls about the legislative process and involving them in political activism, with the hope that some will choose to pursue it long term by running for office in their communities. We were hoping that you could pass along the attached powerpoint to your government and citizenship teachers (or the equivalent class at your school) and your history teachers as well in order to reach as many of your students as possible. We would ask that the teachers simply read the attached document to their students while showing the powerpoint in class. We also have attached a PDF version of our handout for interested students to take home with them.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. You can reply to this email, however you may receive a more informed response from the people who monitor our organization’s email, girlslobbyorg@gmail.com. We have a Zoom Q&A session scheduled for interested parties towards the end of this month, so if at all possible, we would ask that your teachers give this presentation in the next two weeks. If you are holding classes remotely, we would also be willing to work out a time that a representative from Girls Lobby could drop in on the class and give the presentation themselves. You can pass along the Girls Lobby email address to your teachers, and we can work out the details from there.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Girls Lobby"
